History of Living Womb Ceremonies

My name is Amoké Kubat. I am here to help you, nurture you, support you and guide you as you walk your new road to a life worth living.

25 years ago, as I studied to become a teacher, I added African and Native American Spirituality, my dual cultural lineages, to my academic journey. As I read and studied under African and African American Spiritual Elders. I came to an understanding (the deeper learning) that indigenous peoples knew how to respond to every possible phenomena in their daily lives. They possessed the "ability to respond" to the ordinary and the extraordinary, such as environmental seasonal changes and interpersonal relationships to spiritual entities.

This knowing is evident in the mindful designing of functional tools such as Native American cradle boards and West African Talking Drums. These tools remain socially superior to the western concept of modern and technological advanced societies. Daily life is lived in the moment and all things precious is found in the minute detail. Today, in our modern world, we are downloading, uploading, Ipoding, e-mailing, faxing more and communicating on an interdependent and intimate meaningful level less. We are losing the ability to respond to the business (busy-ness) of being human.

As I approached my forties, the new mid-life, I began to reevaluate my life. I had invested more than 20 years in Education and Social Services often working 50 - 60 hours a week. And the educational world was a mess! Too many children are entering school unprepared for learning and too few are exiting as high school graduates let alone prepared for any post secondary options for a life worth living. I began to hate my job and then my life. Weren't teachers to blame for all these failures? I felt like a failure too.

I began to ask for a transformational change. I wanted my live as if I had an awesome and outrageous purpose. I knew it included being of spiritual service and still teaching in some capacity. I wanted to be outside of the box - using my creativity and intuition, my passion for young learners, my commitment to empowering girls and women, and writing and arts performance. I wanted an exciting life where what I did energized me too.

And I was exhausted with the struggle (as a teacher); not enough resources- making do, the scarcity model so prevalent in teaching, today's chldren can't or won't learn, especially in the Special Education, doing more and seeing less gained. So it (the change) had to be easy. It had to be as simple as changing my mind. And it was.

In a discussion with a friend who is an alternative health practicer, I shared that I had a small vision about where my life was heading. I told her it had something to do with changing one's mind. I needed to find a place to learn skills that addressed how people thought and how thoughts became real. did she know of anything like that? She said, "Yes. Call the META INSTITUTE" And I did.

In 2003, I graduated from the Meta Institute in Minneapolis as a Certified Therapeutic Life Coach. I studied for 13 months, more than 350 hours, with an additional 100 hours of hands on training to receive certifications in the Arts and Sciences of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Humanistic Neuro Linguistic Psychology (HNLP). I also studied to gain mastery levels as a Hypnosis and Reiki Practitioner.

I immediately began using my new skills in the classroom. Students who were used to "going off' (verbally venting in high volume and duration) were literally silenced with a quiet question, "how is that working for you?" I had changed my behavior of engaging and enabling and put the ball in the student's court. They often stopped and became speechless. They began to see they had some control and could be accountable for their own behaviors. I began to provide mini- sessions to friends who also wanted to make better decisions, stop smoking, get rid of writer's block, find a new job, resolve old conflicts, and so much more. I realized we all were unlearning, learning or relearning as we transformed our lives!

In 2004, I took a leap into my transformational living life. I created RESPONDABILITY, INC. My first client was the very school district I previously worked as a teacher!

In 2005, RESPONDABILITY, Inc. began to offer training and support for LIFE COACHES and other Caring Giving and Wellness Workers. These trainings include Diversity Training and Strategies for Burnout (Chronic Stress).

Today, Respondability, Inc continues to transform. It is a reflection and testament of my own personal growth and development. In 2006, LIVING WOMB CEREMONIES was added to the existing services offered. Living Womb Ceremonies offers experiential activities for empowering girls and women.
